KEEN BETTER AT 101
Mrs H. A. Dixon Of Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND- July 7. A cablegram from Finland airrived for Mrs Helen A Dixon, of Kiwitea street. Mt Albert, today. It was from one of her grandsons, who is married to a Finnish girl, and it congratulated her on nt aching her one hundred and first birthday. Today, on the eve of her birthday, Mrs Dixon was ‘‘not a day older than last year.”
Mrs Dixon keeps abreast of the news by reading the daily
newspapers and fills in the rest of her time knitting. Colourful tea cosies are a regular gift io callers at her home.
Taxi rides and drives around Auckland are varied by occasional holidays nt Titirangi, and there are always plenty of callers.
Five of Mrs Dixon's eight children are living, and there are 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren- and five great-great-grandchildren.
Born at Parawanui, near Bulls, in 1862, Mrs Dixon still takes her weekly ‘‘five bob double” but in 12 months She has won only one small one.
Undaunted, she said today: •‘l’m still looking for the £lOOO one.”
