Game In City On August 3

The South African Rugby League side win play a South Island side in Christchurch on August 3, the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby League was told last evening. The South African team will play four matches during its tour of the Dominion. Delegates were informed that a coaching school for South Island players will be held in Christchurch on the week-end of August 3 and 4. A team from the coaching school will play a Canterbury team on the Sunday. Seventeen players would take part in the school and the Canterbury nominations would be announced at next week’s meeting of the board of control, said Mr E. G. Blazey. The North Island-South Island schoolboys' match will be played at the Show Grounds on August 31. This game will conclude the national schoolboys' tournament.

Manager And Coach Nominated

The Canterbury Rugby League board of control last evening nominated Mr E. Barnard, of the West Coast, as manager, and Mr E. Butts, of Christchurch. as coach for the South Island Rugby League side to play the touring South African side at the Show Grounds on August 3. The same two men were nominated for the respective positions for the South Island team to play North Island at Auckland on August 27. The nominations will be forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby League Council. The board decided that on July 20. when Linwood is in Dunedin playing in the first round of the Rothmans £lOOO club tournament, the side drawn to play Linwood in the championship scries—Papanui—will be given a bye. The game will be played later in the season.
