COACHING GRANT SOUGHT
Fairlie Club’s Application An application by the Fairlie club for a grant from the Nev. Zealand Golf Foundation's funds for the coaching of its junior players was held over by the Canterbury Golf Association’s management committee last evening. It was agreed to ask the Mid-South Canterbury sub-association to consider organising professonal coaching for juniors in the area.
Members decided that it would be better if all the children in the area could be gathered together for coaching instruction rather than limit it to children from one club. Four clubs would be affected, it was stated.
In a letter to the association. the secretary of the Fairlie club (Mr J. S. Howat) said that in former years when junior player* were going forward in small numbers the senior members of the club gave what knowledge they could, and they had been quite successful. “With 17 juniors (15 boys, two girls) this season, my committee feels that the services of a competent tutor should be obtained." Mr Howat suggested that the professional. Mr T. White, could take the juniors for coaching In the school holidays if financial assistance could be obtained.
It was reported that the Canterbury stroke championships would be held on November 16 at Templeton and on November 17 at Russley. Thirtysix holes would be played at each course. The match between the Templeton Cup area and MidSouth Canterbury would be played on September 1 at Ash-
