Wrestling WAIRARAPA’S FINE WIN

Canterbury Beaten 15-2

Wairarapa scored a surprise victory, by 15 bouts to 2. over a depleted Canterbury team at the Linwood Toe H Boys’ Club rooms on Saturday. Two bouts were drawn. This was Wairarapa’s best inter-provincial success, and its first visit to the South Island. ’ The winners won 12 of their encounters by falls; The overwhelming win even surprised the visiting Wairarapa officials. N. Scott. Wairarapa, the current New Zealand bantamweight champion, defeated Canterbury’s P. Moore on on points. Moore, who was runner-up to Scott in the last national championships, fought tigerishly, but failed to counter Scott’s speed in the closing minutes of the bout. During this encounter, the referee, Mr A. Pickering, suffered a leg injury when he was accidentally hurled into the wall. K. Scott, the holder' of the North Island light-weight title, beat B. TaMott, Canterbury, by a fall. Scott was extremely agile and his speedy mat work contributed much to his win. D. Cullen. Wairarapa. was beaten by B. Hadcroft in the opening minutes of the first round of a middle-weight contest. Hadcroft surprised his experienced opponent with welltimed flying head holds. Hadcroft has held the Auckland, Wellington, and Canterbury titles. One of the best contests was the drawn feather-weight bout between A. Keating. Canterbury, and K. Brown, Wairarapa. Keating was extremely formidable, and was perhaps a little unlucky not to beat his slippery opponent. In an exciting feather-weight bout, R. Fenwick, Wairarapa, defeated Canterbury’s J.
