Fencing AUSTRALIAN TOUR
Smaller Team Opposed
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 7. At a meeting of the Auckland Provincial Amateur Fencing Council today it was decided to oppose a notice of motion relating to the Australian tour which will be debated at the next meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Amateur Fencing Association. This notice of motion is to the effect that the size of the team be reduced from 15 fencers to 12, and that the association advance £3OO towards the cost of sending the 12 The three excluded would still be eligible provided they or their provinces found all their expenses. Auckland will press for the £3OO to be allocated among the 15 chosen. The team is due to leave on August 15. Several key fencers will be unable to travel unless all their expenses are found. This would materially weaken the team and lessen its chances of retaining the Australasian shield. Next Saturday Auckland fencers intend to make a house-to-house collection and sale of raffle tickets in an effort to raise finance. The target is £1350.
