West Indies resumed with 110 for four in reply to England's first innings score of 216, and after an attack by F. J. Trueman and E. R. Dexter were all out for 186. At lunch England had made 24 runs without loss The overnight batsmen B. F Butcher and G. S. Sobers added 18 runs before Butcher went leg before to Dexter for 15. Two runs later another two wickets, tumbled. Trueman bowled Sobers and Dexter bowled Worrell to make it 130 for seven wickets At that stage Dexter had taken three wickets tor 15 runs.

Dexrter missed a hat-trick by a delivery well wide of the off-stump to W. Hall, who came in after Worrall.

Three wickets had gone in eight balls. A crowd of about 5000 spectators saw early play start in overcast weather. In spite of a heavy downpour yesterday, toe match began on time this morning. Since the end of May, Dexter's only wickets in firstclass cricket had come against the West Indies when he took three for 82 with Sussex at Hove. He has bowled little since.

Before this he had not met with success in seven test innings when trying himself Hall provide! amusement with his odd antics and sometimes one-handed strokes. Murray once more showed a straight bat and plently of confidence.
