Indoor Basketball LEADING TEAMS WIN
Women’s Games Continue Leading teams all registered wins when the Canterbury Women's Indoor Basketball Association’s senior competition was continued at Cowles Stadium last evening. The competition leader, Rex, kept its lead by beating the younger Rangiora side. Play followed much the same pattern as in last week's game, with fairly even scoring until the later stages of the second half, when Rex scored repeatedly to draw well clear. Rangiora defended well throughout, and forced Rex to work hard for its points. Good positional play by H. Fellpwes and J. Gaskell «gave Rex many scoring opportunities. For Rangiora. V. Fiddler drew applause with two fine hook shots, but although she combined well with L Rolllnson and D. Quinn, Rangiora had little success with its shots. Solid guarding by J. Taylor and B. Taylor kept them well out, and In the last few minutes Rex took control over tiring opponents and scored almost at will. For Rex, H. Fellowes was outstanding throughout. After their disappointing display last week, it was expected that Rebels A would have difficulty in containing Holy Trinity B. but Rebels played a vastly Improved game to win easily ■ With fine rebounding under both baskets by C. Brown and B. Rogers. Rebels had control of the ball, and thia was one of the deciding factors. Crisp passing on attack, with C. Ogilvie feeding the ball well from centre, gave S. Mansfield and J. Ellison scoring opportunities that they quickly used. Holy Trinity could not counter the solid player-to-player defence. Although N. Tregoning tried to position her team on attack the players.found it difficult to evade the defenders, and frequently lost possession. The other senior game, between Teachers' College and University, was even but uninteresting. Poor ball handling and lack of control on attack cost b6th teams many points Neither team had much success with shots at goal, and the percentage of missed goals was very high. Scoring remained even for most of the game until V. Bennet netted two successive shots to put College In the lead. Holy Trinity A had the bye.
