QUEENSTOWN RESORT
Plans For New Facilities (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, July 8. Preliminary plans have been made to transform Queenstown’s waterfront and provide the amenities expected of a first-class holiday resort, the Mayor of Queenstown (Mr G. D. Cochrane) said today. When the architect’s drawings are completed. Mr Cochrane will personally take the plans to Wellington and put them to the Tourist Department. “There has been talk for years of developing the waterfront, and two months ago the department asked us why we didn’t do something. We now have,” said Mr Cochrane.
The plans include an iceskating rink in the Queenstown gardens, reclamation of a 400 ft by 150 ft area of beach and lake, completely new berthing facilities for boats and launches, and two promenades running out into Queenstown Bay,
