Top Detective On Case
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, July 8 Scotland Yard said last night that a top detective had been assigned to the case of the Jamaican jazz singer, Aloysius “Lucky” Gordon, who was gaoled for assaulting Miss Christine Keeler. It said the appointment of detective Superintendent J. Axon was the first tome a Yard chief had taken charge of these inquiries—which were not specified.
Gordon, aged 32. was sentenced on June 7 to three years imprisonment for assaulting the red-haired model, who was a principal figure in the Profumo affair which came into the headlines after the Gordon case
began. He has appealed against conviction and sentence. Reuter reported. Some press reports have said that Scotland Yard had been topped oft about tape-recordings said to involve conversations concerning Miss Keeler and Gordon. The “News of the World” repor id yesterday that Miss Keeler had admitted a tape recording had been made of her words, but that st the time she was “as high as a kite through drink and a narcotic, so there was no lent wing what was true and what was not."
