CANDIDATE AGAIN
Reluctant Peer At Bristol (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A ) LONDON, July 8. Viscount Stansgate has been again adopted as the prospective Labour candidate for South-East Bristol. He said at a meeting of supporters that the Peerage Bill which has just had it£ second reading in the House of Lords, was a “great victory for Bristol.”
As Mr Anthony Wedgewood Benn, he was Member of Parliament for South-East Bristol from 1950 until November, 1960, when he inherited his father's title. He fought the subsequent byelection as Lord Stansgate and won with a 13,000 majority, but was disqualified from taking the seat because of his title.
