Darfield Wins Again

Darfield, United and Kirwee won their matches in the Malvern sub-association’s competition on Saturday. Darfield and Hororata fought out a torrid, even game on a thawing, frosty ground wtocn became very muddy. Darfield won by two tries to a penalty goal. The Hororata forwards were keen and vigorous. P. Shaw was outstanding. They gave their backs a fair share of the ball, which the backs used intelligently, coming close to scoring several times. Darfield’s forwards, ably led by C. Adams and B. Mitchell, were hard-pressed to contain the Hororata pack. J. Hotop capped another tine full-back performance with a corner try. The other try was scored by the promising young wing, A. Adams, after a conventional back movement. Both lines had their chances but Darfield had the edge in the backs. The referee was Mr K Stevenson. In a fast, open game, Kirwee beat Black Diamonds by points to 0. Kirwee. which received plenty of ball from its hooker. D. Eastmond, was able to give its fast-moving backs plenty of opportunities. Some very weak tackling by the Black Diamonds backs made scoring easier. The Black Diamonds’ backs produced some good movements, but were unable to carry on when the goal-line was near. Both packs worked hard throughout but the Black Diamonds forwards, like th« backs, were unable to finish movements. . . „ In the Kirwee forwards R. Middleton and R. McKay were the pick: Eastmond won most of the ball in the scrums. In the backs R. Glassey, J. Dysart and W. Judd all played well. J . For Black Diamonds C. Dav’son and G.
