Naval Officers Promoted
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 30 Lieutenant Commander D. J Cheney, commander of the frigate H M.N.Z.S. Rotoiti. has been promoted to commander, the Naval Board announced. He is a communication specialist who saw war service with the Royal Navy and transferred to the R.N.Z.N. in 1951 Acting Surgeon Captain J. Macdonald, director of naval medical services since December has been promoted to surgeon captain. Acting Surgeon Commander J D. Read, senior medical officer in the cruiser H.M.N.Z.S. Royalist since February. has been promoted to surgeon commander. These promotions take effect from today. The Naval Board also announced the following provisional list, to take effect from December 31:—
Acting Captain J. P. S. Valiant to captain; Commander E. C. Thorne to captain: Acting Commander P. R. H. Silk to commander: Acting Commander R G. Adams to commander: Lieutenant Commander J. W. Dickie to commander: Instructor Lieutenant Commander J. C. L. Davies to instructor commander.
