Obituary MR E. W. KING

WELLINGTON. June 13

One of three generations of Wellington representative Rugby players, Mr Edward William King, whose death occurred this week at the age of 66, was assistantmanager as well as a playing member of the famous 1919 New Zealand Army team that toured South Africa. He represented Wellington in 1921 and 1922. His father, the late Mr W. King, represented Wellington from 1897 to 1903 and was a life member of the Petone club. His son. Mr P. W. King, represented Wellington in 1947 and 1948, and also Canterbury and Marlborough.

MR J. M. MURRAY

Mr John Malton Murray, former general secretary of the New Zealand Alliance, lias died in Oamaru. He was 85.

Mr Murray was born in Yorkshire. England, in 1879. After working in the family grocery store he joined in the Klondyke gold rush with his father and brother in 1898, and later worked in South Africa. He came to New Zealand in 1920, becoming an organiser for the New Zealand Alliance, and later executive secretary. He was editor of “Vanguard” and the author of “History of Temperance and Prohibition in New Zealand."

In 1938 Mr Murray was appointed a private secretary to Mr Nash, then Minister of Finance.

MR L. C. COTTER

(N.Z., Press Association) BLENHEIM, June 12

A well - known Blenheim dental surgeon, Mr Leslie Charles Cotter, died while being .taken to Waiicau Hospital in an ambulance yesterday afternoon. He had been found unconscious in his surgery.

Mr Cotter, who was 59, had been in practice in Blenheim for more than 30 years. He was well known for his interest in boxing, both as an administrator and a referee. He was also a keen horseman. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and two sons.
