"Hie Gay Ivanov”

A picture of the former Russian assistant naval attache in London, Captain Eugene Ivagov. kissing a woman described as the wife of an American assistant naval attache was printed on the front page of the “Daily Sketch” today. An American Embassy spokesman in London said: “I cannot comment one way or the other” when asked if he could identify the woman or if the embassy had any reaction to the picture. The newspaper published the picture under the headline “The Gay Ivanov.“
It identified the woman as the wife of the American assistant naval attache. Captain Thomas Watson Murphy Captain Ivanov was a friend of the red-haired model Christine Keeler, a key figure in the scandal surrounding the resignation of Mr John Profumo.
The newspaper captioned the picture: “Laughter—and a kiss as two hands clasp a loving cup. A gay moment in the London career of Russia’s party-going Captain Ivanov, whose name has figured so prominently In the story of ex-War Minister John Profumo and Christine Keeler.”
