Auckland Leads In Women’s Tourney

(Neto Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, June 12. Auckland gained two more overwhelming victories today, beating the combined NelsonWest Coast-Marlborough side and Otago by the same margin of 6-0, and took the lead in the women’s interprovincial golf tournament for the Russell Grace Cup at Palmerston North.

Thames Valley-Bay of Plenty is second, Waikato-King Country third, and Taranaki fourth. These four teams are unbeaten.

Thames Valley-Bay of Plenty had a stern tussle with last year's winner. South Canterbury, and won narrowly, 3i-2J. This match featured a fine game between the only women scratch players in New Zealand, Miss U. Wickham and Miss B. A. Stafford, of Timaru. Miss Stafford won the last hole to square the match.

Canterbury’s hopes of winning the championship disappeared when the team was heavily beaten, 5-1, by Mana-watu-Wanganui in the morning, and was held to a 3-3 draw by Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay in the afternoon.
