Presentation To Hohndale

The Port Shield was presented for the first time to Captain E. R. Warner, master of the coaster Hohndale. at a short ceremony aboard the ship at Onehunga tonight.

The Hohndale won the shield with a record passage of 34 hours 12 minutes from Godley Head to the Manakau bar early in April The shield has been presented for competition between ships engaged in the Lyttelton-Onehunga trade. Mr J. R. Port, who presented the shield, said it was hoped it would stimulate interest in the contribution being made to New Zealand industry by coastal shipping services.

He said that 70 ships and more than 1400 men were employed in coastal shipping, which transports about 5m tons of cargo a year.
