County Council Payments
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, June 11
The Government will be asked to consider an increase in the allowance to a county chairman “more in keeping with the revised scale for mayors of municipalities,” as a result of a remit from Waitemata.
A Waitemata remit to this effect was successful when it was presented at the annual conference of the Counties’ Association, in Rotorua this afternoon.
An Oxford remit was passed asking that it be mandatory, not permissive as a present, for each county council to pay £1 10s a meeting to each councillor up to a maximum of £7B a year. More interest would be shown in local body elections if the payments w-ere mandatory, said Mr W. M. Dailey (Oxford).
