UNION VIEW OF FARMING
Nationalisation Suggested
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON. June 12. Farmers should seriously consider the nationalisation of their industry, the Dairy Workers’ Union believes. The union’s national conference suggested this today in view of what it terms the farmers’ "continued running to the Government for assistance."
The union suggested farmers should get together with the workers to discuss ways of remedying their position.
A statement issued by the union tonight said delegates had noted the "almost continuous barrage of complaining statements being issued by farmers' leaders’’ that the farming community was carrying an undue financial burden compared with the rest of the community. The statement said the farmers had even gone so far as to make an application last year to the Arbitration Court to have wages reduced by 10 per cent.
"We have come to the conclusion that the whole situation needs investigation," said the council.
