FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression centred east of the North Island is moving south-eastwards. An intense anti-cyclone to the east of Tasmania extends across the south Tasman Sea to southern New Zealand. Forecast:—
Canterbury.—Light winds inland, mainly moderate south-westerlies about the coast; some’cloudy areas, with a few scattered light showers, otherwise fine and cold, with frosts. Outlook: partly cloudy, with a few drizzle patches. Marlborough.—Fresh southerlies about the coast, strong at times near Cook Strait, with showery periods and cold temperatures; moderate variable winds inland, with partly cloudy, cool weather. Outlook: a few coastal showers, otherwise partly cloudy.
Nelson, Bpller and Westland.—Light winds; fine, with frosts, but moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: mainly fine. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
