127 Applications Heard By Licensing Committee

Publicans were satisfactorily maintaining the standard of accommodation and service in Canterbury—in many instances facilities appeared to have been improved, the chairman of the Canterbury Licensing Committee (Mr E. A Lee, SM) said at the committee's annual meeting yesterday. Other members of the committee were Messrs W. E. Olds, T. R. Carter, M. E. Jenkins, and H. J. Mortlock. The committee dealt with 127 applications.

The only application queried in detail by the committee concerned the King George Hotel. An adverse report on the property had been received from the health inspector, and the renovations and alterations required had for two years been hanging fire, said the chairman.

Certificates authorising the sale of liquor and the taking of lodgers were issued subject to renovations beginning in a month.

Mr G. T. Mahon, representing the proprietors, said that lack of finance had caused the delay, and he expected this protjlem to be solved within a month. The following applications for licences were granted:—
