N.Z. NYLON FACTORY
Reply To Wool Board Member
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 11. ’’l am surprised Mr A. W. Moore read into my statement on the nylon industry a suggestion that I am unsympathetic to woolgrowers and their problems,” said the president of the National Party (Mr J. S. Meadowcroft) today. Mr Meadowcroft was replying to remarks made in Hamilton by Mr Moore,> a member of the Wool Board.
‘‘The National Party has always backed the woollen industry generally and will continue to do so,” Mr Meadowcroft said. "I am personally engaged in more than one aspect of it, including Woolgrowimg. ’
“The proposed nylon factory will make only what is now being imported, and it is estimated that its production will be about a quarter of the country’s needs.
“To this extent it will obviously save overseas exchange. Its promoter Mr R. von Kohom, has also said that it will give local consumers lower-priced goods in this field,” Mr Meadowcroft said.
Prayers For Sailors.— Presbyterian ministers in Christchurch will » offer prayers for all merchant seamen and men at sea on June 30 at the request of the British Sailors’ Society. The society will celebrate its centenary in Port Chalmers on that day.
