Attitude Of Department (NZ Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 11. “The Milford track is no tougher than it was half a century ago,’’ said the assistant general manager of the Tourist and Publicity Department (Mr R S Odell; today He was commenting on a suggestion by Dr J L McIver. of Timaru in the "New Zealand Medical Journal" that Government tourist pamphlets should emphasise the degree of phvsical fitness required of older people Mr Odell said Tourist Bureau officers were always careful to tell people who were obviously "geting past tt” that the walk was not easy Thev advised such people ’o make a eheck on their ability to make the trip “It’s really a matter for persona! decision.” said Mr Odell ‘‘Therg are comfortable hotels along th» route wi»h showers, comfortable bunks and good meals We don’t exaggerate the easiness of the walk. Guides are in charge of the parties and the hostels are well staffed,” aaid Mr OdelL
