(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON. June 11. A feature of fruit trade in recent years was the record export of apples by Australia. New Zealand. South Africa and Argentina in 1902. A production bulletin issued by the Commonwealth Economic Committee in London notes that the rising trend in apple and pear output is due not only to extended plantings, but also to better techniques of cultivation. In Tasmania, irrigation is making crops less dependent on the season. A further expansion of as much as 50 per cent, in New Zealand apple crops was expected to result from technical improvements In its general summary, the review states that more fresh and canned fruit and fruit juices were entering international trade.
The review said the New Zealand pear increase wbs coming more from better yields.
lit added that New Zealand was growing increasing quantities of peaches, whale the small grapefruit acreage had shown Little change in recent years Production of lemons might rise because of the proportion of young trees in New Zeeland, the review said.
