NEW PLYMOUTH. June 9. The Taranaki amateur golf champion. R A. Court, was beaten by Miss P Bull (Wellington). 1 up. when a New Zeeland women’s golf team met a men's side from Taranaki in a practice match at the New Plymouth Golf Club's course today.
The women are to compete in a Commonwealth tournament in Australia In August
Court's defeat was the only one the men suffered, although D V Sutherland. A N Jeffrey and A. W Middleton squared their matches with Mrs M Mangan (Palmerston North) and Misses N White (Auckland) and S. Grigg (Canterbury). The New Zealand women's champion. Miss P Harrison (Hamilton), was beaten by R. L Pease. 5 and 4. and a past national champion. Miss V. Wickham (Tauranga), lost to T. J Jeflery. 4 and 3
I. H. Murray beat Mrs O. Johnson (Taurangai. 2 and 1. and A M Pool defeated Miss J Butler (Rotorua), 2 and 1. All matches were played at scratch.
