Motor Racing McLaren in BELGIUM

B. McLaren, the "dark horse’’ New Zealander and number one Cooper racing car driver, moved to the top of the world championship table as a result of his second placing in today’s Belgian Grand Prix, won by J. Clark, at Britain. McLaren—who was third at the season’s first world championship at Monte Carlo a fortnight ago—now has 10 points. Britain’s reigning world champion, G. Hill, who won at Monte Carlo, and Clark, who did not finish in that race, both have nine points after today’s race. The American. R. Ginther. also has nine points.
Next in order are D. Gurney (U.S.) 4. J. Surtees (Britain' 3, J. Bonnier (Sweden) and T. Maggs (South Africa) 2. T. Taylor (Britain) and G de Faufort (Holland) 1. Clark, driving a Lotus x Climax, won the Belgian Grand Prix event at Francorchamps for the second year in succession. He led throughout the 32-lap race and clocked 2hr 27min 47.65ec for the 280-mile race. He averaged 114.09 m.p.h. McLaren, driving a CooperClimax. was second in 2hr 32min 41.6 sec. He averaged 110.10 m.p.h. Third place went to Don Gurney in a Brabham Cov-entry-Climax.
This gave the Brabham cars their best world championship placing since they made their first appearance last season. Gurney finished one lap behind. Brabham had to abandon the race during the seventeenth lap after mechanical trouble W’ith his car. Rain during the race led to slow times for the event. Hill withdrew with engine trouble.
