HARBOUR BOARD
Chief Post Now Vacant
The position of secretarymanager of the Lyttelton Harbopr Board is now vacant, after the decision of the appeal board in favour of Mr A J. Sowden. the board's treasurer, against the appointment of Mr A. I. R Jamieson. As a result of the decision, there is now no ground foe the appeal by Captain A. R. Champion, the harbourmaster, against Mr Jamieson’s appointment. Once the board has made an appointment it is still open to the members of the board's staff who applied for the position to lodge an appeal. No special meeting of the board has been arranged. Hie next scheduled meeting will be on July 3. Mr Sowden is likely to be appointed by the board; and it is thought that there will be no appeal against the decision. The engineer-in-chief (Mr J. A. Cashin), who came to Christchurch on a higher salary than the then secretary, may pursue his claim for higher grading and salary; bu>t is unlikely to take the matter to a tribunal.
