The British Davis Cup player. M J Sangster. beat an Australian. A. Roche, to retain the men’s singles title in the Northern lawn tennis championships at Manchester on Saturday. Sangster had to go flat out to beat the talented young Australian left-hander, winning 1917 6-4 The marathon first set lasted 90 minutes. The Australian number three. Miss J. Lehane, beat Last years winner, Miss D. P Hani, of America, 6-4, 8-10. 6-4, in the women’s singles final.

R. Emerson, of Australia, reached the men's singles final at the Count Godo tennis tournament tn Barcelona yesterday. _ .. . Emerson beat J. Mandarine (Brazil). 6-3. 6-2. 3-6 6-3. in his semi-final. He will meet J. M. Couder (Spain) in the final tomorrow.
