Chateaugay’s Easy Win

Chatesugay won the 145.450 - dollars Belmont Stakes today, strengthening his claim to recognition as America's top three-year-old. Associated Press reported. Chateaugay, a son of Swaps and Banquet Bell, also won the Kentucky Derby to account for two-thirds of the American “Triple Crown.” The middle race in the three-race classic series the Preakness Stakes, was won by Candy Spots with Chateaugay second. Candy Spots, the heavy favourite, finished' second in today's Belmont, run over one mile and a bait at the Aqueduct racecourse. Choker was third and Tom Cat was fourth in foe seven-horse

The ninety-fifth Belmont was the first contested at Aqueduct. Racing at Belmont Park, where foe race normally is run. has been discontinued until its grandstand is rebuilt.
