MAST LOST IN STORM
Trimaran Back At Auckland (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 9. A 35-foot trimaran, the Kia Koa, was towed back to Auckland this afternoon after she had been dismasted in heavy weather near Channel Island, in the Hauraki Gulf, on Saturday night. The yacht, which lost its 34-foot mainmast, was found trailing a sea anchor, with jury rig. by the trawler Kai Waka The Kia Koa is owned by Mr L Method. of Bridge street. Opotiki. She was built in Opotiki and launched on May 17 The trimaran sailed to Auckland, via Tauranga to be fitted out in preparation for a Pacific cruise. Mr McLeod sailed to New Zealand from Ireland singlehanded in a 32-foot sloop in 1960
