Charles, of New Zealand, shared second place with two Americans, George Bayer and George Knudson, after the second round of the Buick open golf tournament on Saturday, Associated Press reported. They were on 141, four strokes behind the leader, Julius Boros, who added a 71 to his first round of 66 Charles, who had a 69 on Friday, and shared third place, scored a 72’ yesterday. An Australian. On Friday, Charles also won 1000 dollars (about £445) in a hole-in-one contest held in conjunction with the tournament. United Press International said.
Each of the leading 15 professionals in the first round were given three shots on the 155-yard seventeenth hole. None of the players scored a hole in one which would have won 50.000 dollars (about £22.320>. and the closest was Miller Barber, of Texas, who took 15,00 b dollars (about £0596) with a shot 3ft BJin from the pin Charles was sixth, finishing lift BJ'.n from the hole Bayer was a day late with nis hole in one, scored at the 171-yard eighth hole in Saturday’s second round, but the shot won him a new car
