Car Overturns Near Rangiora

A young man was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road and rolled down a bank on the south approach to the Ashley river bridge last evening. He was:

Brian Leckie, aged about 27. single, a trainee at the Forest and Range Experimental Station, Rangiora.

The accident happened just before 6 pm. on the Rangiora-Lobum road. Mr Leckie suffered severe head and other injuries and was taken to the Christchurch Hospital by the Rangiora ambulance. He died about half an hour after admission.

There were no witnesses to the accident It is believed that the car left the sealed surface on the lefthand side of the approach to the bridge, veered across the road and rolled over going down the bank The car was on its wheels when the police arrived.
