The Queen’s Birthday
Sir,—On each occasion that Her Majesty’s birthday has been commemorated with a parade in Cathedral square, since 1953, I have looked in vain for those who were so much to the fore and “gathered in the plums" during her first visit. Is the loyalty of the so-called “leading lights," the heads of departments, the heads of various organisations, etc., such that it is generated only with the actual presence of the Sovereign? I hope that all those who were so keen to “climb aboard the waggon” will continue with their ingrained loyalty (or is it?) by attending tne ceremony in the square on Monday.—Yours, etc., MATELOT. May 30. 1963.
