Cost Of Float Breakdown
A broken-down horaefloat yesterday prevented the Ashburton Trotting Club from topping the £lOO.OOO mark with its off-course turnover.
The float wu carrying Grand Charge, a candidate for the Stewards' Handicap with several hundred £s invested on his chances. He was a late scratching from the £550 race, the seventh on the programme.
The money refunded on Grand Charge, however, made only a small reduction of a substantial increase in the club’s offcourse turnover. Altogether the T.AJB. handled £99,947 5s on the meeting. compared with £45355 last year, when the meeting was held on a Saturday and competed with several others.
