Vote Was Not Unanimous
It had not been the unanimous wish of the executive council of the New Zealand Rugby Union to permit the Christchurch High School Old Boys’ Club to tour Australia in late August and September, but he felt he decision was the correct one, the chairman of the council (Mr T. C Morrison* said at a meeting of the body n Christchurch yesterday By 14 votes to two, in a telephone vote, the council allowed the club's appeal against the decision of the annual meeting of the New Zealand union that tours of Australia should be made only between October and February Mr R. L. Burk asked that his vote against the club’s appeal be recorded, Canterbury delegates had not raised the matter at the annual meeting and he felt that had their case been discussed the decision would have been the same.
Mr Burk asked if the council had the right to alter a decision of the annual meeting.
The council had an overall direction from the annual meeting but there were occasions when it must use its own judgment, replied Mr Morrison Tough Tour The opinion that the New Zealand Rugby Union had looked at the financial aspect m arranging the five-match tour of the Dominion by the England Rugby team was expressed by Mr W A Craddock, the union’s liaison officer with the side. „ He felt the tour had been a bit tough” and that the union had not been altogether fair to the team.
‘I do think we have given them four tests.” he said Mr Craddock had the highest praise for the touring part, which, he said, was a credit to Rugby.
