Governors Bay only hotel. Use Ocean View, is to be offered at auction later this month The present owner and licensee. Mr D Rodgers has had the hotel for the last 37 years, but i< now in poor health
Mr Rodgers bought the hotel trom Jack Steel, the famous All Black, in 1936 and acquired the licence 16 years later In the early days of Governors Bay the hotel was one of three, in company with several boarding-houses and guest houses Mr Rodgers, who was bom at Queenstown, has held hotel licences for 50 years. He began with a hotel in Auckland. and has tince bad hotels at Tlmaru. Georgetown. Rangtora, Islington and Christchurch Before be went into the hotel business Mr Rodgers was a rough-rider in the Boer War. He is believed to be the oldest Licensee in
