DEATH BY ROCK FALL
Finding At Inquest (N.Z Press Association) WHATAROA. May 31. A verdict that a 31 -yearold Englishman. Gilbert Murray of Cumberland, had died at Pioneer Hut at the head of the Fox Glacier in South Westland on January 7 afte- being struck by a fall of • rock was returned by the Coroner (Mr R. M. Vincent) when he concluded an inquest into Murray’) death at Whataroa.
Murray was a member of a climbing party of eight which camped at the hut. which was subsequently engulfed by an avalanche of stone. Two other members of the part-- were injured. In a rider, Mr Vincent said that rescuers who had gone to the scene of the accident were to be commended for their action. Mr Murray had been in New. Zealand for two years and lived in Christchurch.
