German Soccer Team Welcomed To N.Z.

WELLINGTON, May 31
The visiting Karlsruhe soccer players were not only ambassadors o* sport but of a country, the Prime Minister <Mr Holyoake) said today when welcoming the visiting .West German team at a Parliamentary reception The Karlsruhe team had built up an outstanding sporting record, Mr Holyoake said With seven internationals in the party, the club had reason to be very proud of its contribution to the code. Mr Walter Nash, speaking on behalf of the Leader of the Opposition, said: “I have been impressed at the re-
markable progress made in Western Germany since the conflict between us ended.” The German Minister in New Zealand, Dr H. Noehring, said it was a pleasure to meet again a party of his fellow countrymen. This was a tour of friendship. The president of the Karlsruhe club, Dr F Vida, said he realised' that his team carried a heavy - weight of responsibility as the first German soccer club ever to visit New 'Zealand. He hoped that the games in New Zealand would further cement relationships between German and New Zealand youth.
