Fought, Then Fed Escaper

MELBOURNE, May 30
A 50-year-old Victorian housewife, Mrs Valda Sharp, who is sft 3in and weighs lOst, fought an armed prison escaper last year. She has been awarded the British Empire Medal for gallantry. Mrs Sharp disarmed Rex Elston, aged 18", after a struggle in the darkness of her home near Tallarook. Then she helped her husband subdue Elston, gave him food and put him to bed before calling the police.
