SURROUNDED RACH
Eight Armed Policemen (N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 30. Armed police surrounded a bach at Whangarata, near Tuakau, tonight after they had been unable to execute a warrant for the arrest of a man. Police said the man for whonq they had a warrant was James Keogh, aged about 60. a shop assistant. Soon after 7 p.m. Detective K. A. Latham, of the Auckland C. 1.8.. and Constable F J. Blackburn, of Tuakau called at a bach near the Whangarata School to execute the warrant. As a. result of a conversation with a man at the bach they returned to Auckland and police armed with rifle* and automatic pistols left the city soon after 8 p.m. Repeated requests over a loud iuuler for the man inside the bach to leave it were ignored. Later, a neighbour, Mr W. J.‘ R. Watson, went up to the side of the bach and spoke to the man through a wall.
Mr Watson told the police the man inside had said he would come quietly in the morning after he had had a night's rest. Detective Inspector R. J Walton, who headed the police party, said the police would wait until daylight if necessary.
Late tonight eight armed police were still on watch outside the bach.
