SUGAR BEET PROPOSALS
Examination
By Government
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. May 30.
The Government would be willing to examine any proposition regarding a sugar beet industry, the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) said today. Mr Taiboys had been asked whether the Government would consider a sugar beet industry organised on the same financial basis as the timber industry at Kawerau —the combination of Government finance, private enterprise and local capital. Any proposition put to the Government would be considered in the light of the information available. “If it is shown to be a reasonable proposition, then I am all for a sugar beet industry.” the Minister said.
The main job at present appeared to be to elucidate all the facts, “and I am certainly making sure that the work is not held up for want of assistance from the Department of Agriculture.” • '
