NEW ELECTORAL ROLL
Obligation On All Adults All persons over 21 were required by regulation to fill in a torn to have their names put on the electoral roll, said the Registrar of Electors in Christchurch 'Mr J. Miller) yesterday. Many persons did not appreciate this obligation, he said. Some erroneously thought that because they were ratepayers their inclusion on the electoral roll was automa<tic. This was so only with localbody rolls, he said. Persons who did not enrol, or re-enrol, would not be included in the new roll to be published in the next few months, he said. Persons should take care to comply with the direction on the enrolment forms. The requirements were simple and the forms well laid out. yet hundreds of blatant mistakes had already been detected during preliminary processing of the cards returned to date. About 140,000 cards were distributed in the district and almost 100.000 had been returned. All were required to be in by June 30, Mr Miller said. Although the staff had been able to give the cards only a cursory examination numerous errors had been found. More cards would have to be sent to these persons, he said. Failßre to sign cards, no witness’s signature, no address, and couples using one card were among the most common mistakes, said Mr Miller.
