GREY LYNN SEAT
Majority Of 2381 (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 30. The Labour candidate for the Grey Lynn by-election, Mr R. A. Keeling, retained the seat for Labour with an absolute majority of 2381 votes. The official result of the poll announced today by Mr-M. I. Hannan, the returning officer. was:— R. A. Keeling iL) .. 4172 R. J. Presland (N) .. 1791 W A Ross (S.C.) .. 246 G E Jackson (C) .. 128 Majority for Keeling 2381 The party percentages for the by-election were as follows, the 1960 figures being given in parenthesis.: Labour, 65.8 per cent. (63.8). National, 28.3 per cent (30.3). Social Credit 3.9 per cent. (5.1). Communist. 2 per cent (.81. The poll was 41.2 per cent, the lowest figure recorded in the seven by-elections held during the current term of Parliament At the General Election in 1960, the late Mr F. Hackett had a majority of 4596. The polling percentage then was 89 per cent
