Man Injured In Shooting

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 29.

The Minister of Social Security (Mr McKay) has advised Mr G. M Bernard, an Auckland insurance assessor, that Mr Harry Pettit, the civilian injured in the Waitakere shooting in January cannot be assisted from the Social Security Fund. Mr Pettit suffered radial palsy of the arm when he was shot by a man. who has since been declared insaner Mr Pettit has been off work ever since. In a lettCT to Mr Bernard. Mr McKay said there was no legal authority to exclude income which Mr Peftit was receiving from a personal accident policy. “I am very sorry that Mr Pettit cannot be helped from the fund,” he said However, in view of the special circumstances of the case, the matter had been referred to the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan).
