C.W.I. CHOIR FESTIVAL
District Win To Bryndwr The choir of the Bryndwr Country Women’s Institute won the Canterbury District Choral Festival which was held in Christchurch last evening.
Having excelled the Hills-borough-Heathcote institute choir, Bryndwr will now sing in the Canterbury Area Choral Festival in Christchurch on June 19. It will compete against choirs from Mid - Canterbury,. South Canterbury and North Canterbury. The judge of the festival was Mr Eric Voice, of Christchurch. He had been “very pleasantly surprised” by the standard attained by both choirs, he said. Clarity and diction of the choirs had been “very good,” he said. The festival was opened by Mrs L. M. Kellaway, president of the Canterbury federation, who explained that it was the beginning of a Dominion wide choral festival competition. Mesdames J. W. Martin (Dominion vice-president) and C. D. Newton (Dominion executive) were guests at the festival. More than 150 attended.
