South Africa Lifts Ban
(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copvright) JOHANNESBURG, May 28 Overseas racehorses may be seen on South African courses again now that a 1951 ban or, the importation of horses for racing is to be lifted. In a statement issued today by the Jockey Club of South Africa, it was announced that “permits will be given for the importation of horses for racing purposes" Breeders have been permitted to import horses free of import duty for breeding, but they were not allowed to race in South Africa.
With the lifting of the ban. any horse imported since September 1 last year will be eligible to race in the Republic provided that the import duty levied by the Government is paid.
