RELUCTANT PEERS
Assurance On Next Election (Special Crspdt. N.ZJ>.A) LONDON, May 13. The Leader of the House of Commons 'Mr Macleodi has given “reluctant peers” what political writers accept as a definite assurance they can go ahead and get themeelves adopted as prospective candidates for the House of Commons at the next General Election. Speaking about the Lords Reform Bill. Mr Macleod said it was the Government's intention to pass the Bill through all its stages before the end of the present Parliament. He gave a' “firm pledge” that legislation for surrender of hereditary peersges would be operative at the election, whenever it came.
