The Labour Party leader (Mr Harold Wilson) yesterday said the longer the Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) waited to call a general election, “the more serious it will be for the country.” He told a news conference in Southampton that the "magnificent” results of the local election were clear notice to quit to Mr Macmillan’s Government. “The timing of a general election is a matter for Mr Macmillan and he does not take me into his confidence. But I should think he is a very rattled and worried man for he must know what an early election means.”
