Service For Mrs M. C. Hendrie A commemoration service for Mrs M. C. Hendrie. who was principal of Bishop Julius Hostel, for 25 years between 1929 and 1953. was held in th»> Christchurch Cathedral on Saturday, and was attended by 70 members of the Bishop Julius Hostel Ex-Students’ Association. The association held a reunion over the week-end in order to attend the service and members from all parts of New Zealand, including Auckland and Invercargill, took part The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev A. K Warren) gave the address at the commemoration service. He sooke of the work Mrs Hendrie had done, both in the hostel aryl beyond its limits During her time at the hostel she had made it a home for those in her care there, and had earned and retained their love and respect. An afternoon tea at the hostel after the service was attended by friends of Mrs Hendrie. and representative? of many institutions wi'h which she had had close asso. elation, these including the University. the Teachers' College, ttie Mothers' Union and other church groups. The forme- students of the hostel held a reunion dinner and social gathering in the evening Contributions made to Mrs Hendrie's Memorial Fund are to be used for the purchase of a cross and candlesticks for the altar of the chapel at the Bishop Juliu' Ho'el. it wa= announced at ’ business meeting of the former students’ association later. The cross and will be chosen for the association by Bishop Warrer during his visit to London later this vear A contribution for new dining chairs at the hoste'has also been made by the association In the past, reunions ot former students of the hoste' had not been held at regular intervals, said the presidenof the association.
