PRACTICAL SIDE OF FARMING

College’s Trend To Academics It was to be hoped that Lincoln College would not, under the pressure of scientists, drift away from the practical side of fanning and become a university for degree men only, said Mr R. E. Hiatt in his report as chairman to the Annual conference of the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers.

“Unfortunately the tendency is in this direction and therefore, through our federation, we must give the fanner members of the college council all the support they need,” he said. “It was with some concern that I read of Mr T. D. J. Holdemess’s wishes to retain the goodwill of the farming community over-ruled by the professorial board opposing the continuation of the college's exhibit at the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Show. I hope he will have more support when it comes to making a decision on a new woolshed at the college," he said.
