“ARCHITECTURAL DISEASE”
Schools With Too Many Windows
Large numbers of windows in building design were “an architectural disease of our time,” the chairman of the Burnside High School board of governors (Professor N. M. MacElwee) said at a meeting of the board last night. “However, the epidemic is almost over, and many of the buildings with large amounts of glass are now seeking ways to obscure the glass," he said. The headmaster (Mr C. Cross) said that fierce sunlight was causing damage to school furniture and intense discomfort to teachers and pupils. The board agreed to ask the Education Department for protective curtaining in 25 rooms at the school which faces north or east
An application will also be made for £5OO to duplicate laboratory equipment. The scattered nature of the school buildings meant that some valuable laboratory equipment had to be carried about the school grounds to be shared by different classes, said Mr Cross.
